We must know Truth to be set Free

Opening Reflection

In this powerful continuation through the Gospel of John, we journey through John 8:12–15, 30–32 alongside Ephesians 4:21–25 to uncover the liberating power of Truth found only in Jesus Christ. Jesus declares that He is the Light of the world, and only those who follow Him walk in true freedom. Many speak about truth, yet Scripture reveals there is only one eternal Truth, Jesus Christ Himself. Freedom is not found in information, opinions, or human wisdom, but through abiding in His Word, walking in His Light, and allowing His Truth to transform the heart.

The Truth That Makes Men Free

In this message, we examined how many people quote, ‘The truth shall make you free,’ while overlooking the condition Jesus gave beforehand: ‘If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed.’ True freedom does not come through casual awareness of truth, but through continuing in the Word of God and truly knowing Jesus Christ.

There are many things in life that may be factually true at the same time, but there is only one eternal Truth that liberates the soul — Jesus Christ. The bondage of man is not merely external, but spiritual. Apart from Christ, people remain bound by deception, darkness, sin, and the old nature.

As believers continue in His Word, the Holy Spirit exposes falsehood, renews the mind, and teaches us to put off the old man and walk in newness of life. Freedom is found through intimacy with Christ — through prayer, obedience, fellowship with God, and steadfastly remaining in His truth.

“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
— John 8:31–32 (KJV)

Continuing in His Word

Examine Your Heart

  • Are you merely familiar with Scripture, or are you truly abiding in Christ?
  • Have you allowed the Word of God to confront and transform your old ways of thinking?
  • Are there areas of bondage where truth has not yet been fully embraced?
  • Do you seek God only for information, or for intimate fellowship with Him?
  • Are you walking in the freedom Christ gives, or still living under old patterns and deception?

  • John 8:12–15
  • John 8:30–32
  • Ephesians 4:21–25

Final Encouragement

True freedom is not found in merely hearing truth, but in continuing steadfastly in the Word of God and knowing Jesus Christ intimately. As we walk in His Light and remain in His truth, the old man is put away, the mind is renewed, and the soul is transformed into the freedom only Christ can give.
